KOCHI: A Naval sailor died in a “ground accident” involving a Chetak helicopter on INS Garuda, Indian Navy said on Saturday.
Initially perceived as a crash, it was later clarified to be the result of a mechanical failure during routine maintenance taxi checks.
“The incident occurred during maintenance taxi checks at INS Garuda, resulting in the loss of life of a Leading Air Mechanic (LAM).
The Indian Navy, under the leadership of Adm R Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), mourned the loss of LAM Yogendra Singh and extends heartfelt condolences to his grieving family,” a navy spokesperson said on X.
The navy has initiated a probe into the matter to ascertain the details and causes of the ground accident.
