YouTube and TikTok
The European Commission has formally sent requests for information to YouTube and TikTok under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The Commission is requesting these companies to provide more information on the measures they have taken to comply with their obligations related to the protection of minors. This includes obligations related to risk assessments and mitigation measures to protect minors online, particularly with regard to risks to mental and physical health, and on the use of their services by minors.
YouTube and TikTok have given a Deadline
YouTube and TikTok have been given a deadline of November 30, 2023, to provide the requested information. Based on the assessment of the replies, the Commission will assess the next steps, which could entail the formal opening of proceedings pursuant to Article 66 of the DSA. If the information provided is incorrect, incomplete, or misleading, the Commission can impose fines.

This move is part of the new EU rules known as the Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires Big Tech to do more to fight harmful and illegal online content, especially content that targets minors.
